Help for Haiyan

A HUGE THANK YOU to all those who contributed items or money for relief aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan through The John Lyall Charity.

Our community learning centre in Libis, Rizal, was unaffected but, because of all the kind enquiries, we decided to collect items to send to our Project Manager in the Philippines in Forex pre-paid boxes. (If you are interested, you can see the type of box and grateful Filipinos receiving them on the Forex website). This is a route used by Filipinos to send items home, and is well tried and tested by JLC.

Our Project Manager in the Philippines has a good relationship with another local NGO called Operation Blessing and we have arranged that they will collect the boxes from our Centre and take them to Tacloben by truck.  Our Project Manager will document everything in order to assure our donors that their donations will be properly distributed to the victims.  The boxes will take 6-8 weeks to arrive.  We have been sending them over the past week and the last one went on 4th December.

We have been overwhelmed with the kindness of our supporters in donating so many good quality clothes for men, women and children (many of them new with tags on), sheets, towels, tins of food (250 came from the pupils from St Mark’s school in Hounslow), toiletries and over the counter medicines and first aid kits.  The response was so wonderful that we have been able to send out SEVEN boxes (approx size 10 cubic feet) and have been given enough monetary donations to pay for the freight.

Again, THANK YOU – what an amazing act of generosity and kindness this has been.
